Dr. McKinney does not believe that insurance companies should determine what is medically necessary. The simplicity of cash billing allows for that decision to be left up to YOU! By eliminating insurance billing, Dr. McKinney gets to fulfill her practice philosophy, by creating the unique patient-centered care that she wants for every individual to be able to achieve optimal health.
Patients pay Dr. McKinney directly, and then Dr. McKinney will provide patients with a “Superbill” form to submit to their insurance plan for reimbursement. Please make sure to call your insurance plans to see whether your insurance will reimburse fully or partially for out-of-network services. Reimbursement is solely determined by your insurance provider which means Dr. McKinney cannot guarantee the amount of reimbursement you may receive. Oftentimes, insurance companies may not cover services, but it is important to verify with your insurance before making appointments with an out-of-network provider.
Here are examples of questions that you can ask your insurance company before making an appointment with an out-of-network provider:
Do I have an out-of-network deductible? If so, what is it?
Do lab testing costs contribute to my deductible? At what percentage?
Does my insurance plan cover Naturopathic Medicine, in network and/or out of network?
If I submit a superbill, will reimbursements go toward my deductible or will I be reimbursed directly?
What percentage of the following procedure codes (i.e. 99205 or 99215) is reimbursed when billed by an out-of-network Naturopathic Physician?
Reimbursement for Out of Network Services
Once you contact your insurance and are authorized for reimbursement, there are certain documents that you will need once you file your claim with insurance. You will need a Superbill and a summarized receipt of your visit with Dr. McKinney which includes diagnosis codes, details of service, provider information and documentation of payment of the services rendered.
How to Submit your Superbill:
On the back of your insurance card, there is a claims submission address. Mail your superbill and receipt of services to the appropriate address listed. If you do not receive your reimbursement within at least one month, please contact your insurance company to check on the status of your claim.

Your New Patient appointment will last for 90 minutes.
During this time, Dr. McKinney will begin a thorough review of your medical history, ask you follow up questions regarding your intake forms and will discuss a treatment plan that will address what was discussed in the visit.
At the end of the visit we will schedule a return visit to follow up with treatment plans and/or labs for 2-6 weeks later.
-
After the New Patient Visit, based upon your specific needs, Dr. McKinney will recommend nutraceuticals/supplements and will share with you her online dispensary Fullscript link.
Dr. McKinney, if indicated, will request to have your blood drawn for routine lab testing. Labs will be ordered electronically through lab companies such as LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics. You will be directed to the draw site nearest you. Most patients can use their insurance to cover lab testing through these companies including a lab draw fee.
Certain specialty tests, if permitted in your treatment plan, may not be covered by insurance. Dr. McKinney will determine during your first visit whether these are important to pursue to achieve your health goals.
-
This visit is catered to reviewing The Treatment Plan created from your First Visit. We will review lab blood work, speciality tests, and supplement check in. When reviewing your lab results, she will speak in great detail what each lab marker means specifically in regards to your health concerns. Dr. McKinney will fine tune your original treatment plan, recommended nutriceuticals, and add any other changes if indicated once we finish the review.
Scheduling additional visits will be discussed for follow-up continued care.
-
Depending on individual extensive health concerns, Dr. McKinney will determine the appropriate frequency of visits that will help solve your health problems. Certain follow up visits can be shorter intervals of time once we have established care.
Dr. McKinney likes to do monthly and/or quarterly check-ins to make sure you continue on the right track for continued success in your health journey.
